Aleksis Martin is a clarinetist in the Boston area, currently a Master’s student at the New England Conservatory. Aleksis began his musical study playing the piano at age five, switching to clarinet at at twelve. He has played and soloed in numerous orchestras and bands in his native Missouri, where he studied with Scott Andrews of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra. Aleksis has worked in orchestras with conductors such as David Robertson, Charles Dutoit, and Mei-Ann Chen, and Leonard Slatkin. He has performed in Master classes with clarinetists such as Andreas Ottensamer, Alain Desgagné, and Steven Williamson. An advocate of new music, Aleksis has also recorded the Clarinet Quintet, Octet, and “Missa Pro Defunctis” of composer Thomas Oboe Lee. Expected to graduate NEC in 2021, Aleksis studies with the BSO’s Associate Principal and E-flat Clarinetist Thomas Martin.
