Austin Canon, trombone

Austin Canon, trombone

Austin Canon is a tenor trombonist from Sarasota, FL. Originally from Miami, FL, he moved up to Sarasota where he currently resides. He attended Riverview High school and was a proud member of the Riverview High School Kiltie Band In his time at Riverview, he performed under the baton of Mr. Mark Spreen. From freshman year to graduation he was the Principal Trombone of the RHS Wind Ensemble. As the years went by, he climbed the ranks to Trombone Section Leader, Band Captain, and Drum major of the Marching Band. Outside of school, he performed in the Sarasota Youth Orchestra. It was there that he met his first private instructor, Brad Williams, Principal Trombone of the Sarasota Orchestra. Without him and the support of many others in the Sarasota Orchestra, he would not be the musician he is today. Thanks to Mr. Williams’ guidance, Austin went on to be the Principal Trombone of FMEA’s Florida All-State Band and Orchestra throughout high school and also went on to win the youth orchestra’s concerto competition and played the David Concertino with the Sarasota Orchestra. During summers of his high school years, Austin attended the Brevard Music Center for three consecutive summers, where he studied with Professors Dan Satterwhite and David Jackson. Currently, Austin is a Sophomore at the New England Conservatory of Music and studies under Stephen Lange of the BSO. Aside from being a passionate musician, Austin enjoys being physically active, and listening to Rock n’ Roll, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, and Classical music. His favorite band is Metallica. With the goal of being an orchestral trombonist, Austin’s dream would be to return to Sarasota and play 2nd Trombone in the Sarasota between his former teachers and to give back to the community which gave him his upbringing. Thanks to all the support from family and friends, and the instruction from Brad and Mr. Spreen; he is very happy to be studying at and for that he is forever grateful.
