Violinist Hyun Jung Kim won top prizes from several prestigious international competitions, including the Moscow Classical Heritage International Competition, the Yokohama International Competition and most recently at the 2014 Sion International Duo Competition “Feast of Duos”. Ms. Kim made her debut performance with the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) as one of Korea`s Young Outstanding Artists in 2007. She toured for the 2008 Olympics in Central and South Asia as one of the members of the Cultural Diplomatic Mission. In the same year, she was also nominated as one of Kumho Cultural Foundation’s Rising Stars in Korea and gave numerous recitals throughout Korea and the United States.
More recently, Ms. Kim also gave a broadcasted performance on Suisse-Espace 2, a radio television station based in Switzerland. She also performed as soloist with the Orchestra de Chambre de Lithuanie in Sion, Switzerland and the New England Repertory Orchestra in Boston, MA. Her numerous accomplishments have been featured several times in Korea’s issues of the Strad and the String and Bow magazines and the Korean-American Newspaper. As an accomplished chamber musician, Ms. Kim won 1st Prize in the American Protégé competition with her Piano Quintet including a performance in Carnegie Hall. In addition, her duo, Duo Davvero, was invited to participate in the Académie de Musique Lausanne Violin-Piano Duo Masterclass and was consequently awarded Best Duo Performance prize.
Ms. Kim received her Bachelor’s Degree from Seoul National University and continued to earn her Master’s degree at the New England Conservatory with a full scholarship, studying with Donald Weilerstein. She also holds a Pinchas Zukerman Performance Diploma from the Manhattan School of Music, where she was also a full scholarship recipient. Currently, Ms. Kim is a Doctoral Musical of Arts candidate, studying with Bayla Keyes, and a Teaching Assistant for the Strings Department at Boston University School of Music.
