Kathleen Winters, second flutist with the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra, was a semi-finalist in the 2013 National Flute Association Young Artist Competition, where she finished in the top six out of 129 national and international entrants. A two-time finalist for the Krannert Center Debut Artist award, she was the winner of the 2010 Illinois Flute Society Chamber Competition, 2008 Virginia Commonwealth University Concerto Competition, 2007 Sigma Alpha Iota Competition, 2004 and 2006 Music Teachers National Association Virginia State Woodwind Competition, and 2003 Norfolk Chamber Consort Young Artist Competition. Ms. Winters has participated in the Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific, the Nice International Summer Music Academy in Nice, France, and the Aspen Music Festival and School, where she was twice the recipient of the Lois Risley Endowed Flute Scholarship. Ms. Winters is a second-year doctoral student at the University of Illinois and the teaching assistant for Dr. Jonathan Keeble.
